Because coldbloods are not as fast as
the standardbred, they have fewer insidences of hairline
fractures, and they seldom develop pulmonary hemorrage.
This is probably because they never get to top speed.
The coldbloods more often make breaks, and one horse
that may have a high physical capacity may have to go
slower than the real capacity indicates - just to stay
flat.
Due to inbreeding the coldbloods have a severe problem
with carpitis. The coldblood hooves are not stronger
than the standardbred hoof, and they get damaged are
just as much as the standardbred hooves do.
