Varenne's stud career

Varenne is one of the best trotters in the history of the sport. He won the Italian Trotting Derby at 3 and after a very respectable third in Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli against Conway Hall, he never looked back and was completely dominating for the rest of his career. His list of victories is too long to mention here, but the Elitlopp and Prix d'Amerique in Europe, and Breeders Crown in the US are just some of the races Varenne won. Long distance or short, it didn't matter, and Varenne became world champion on both 1000m track (5/8 mile) or 1609m (mile) track - in 1.09,3ak and 1.09,1ak (1:51.1m).

Varenne's oldest foals were 3-year-olds in 2007 and have started very promising. In Italy he is sire of the two leading horses of their year, Impeto Grif (colt) and Idole Di Poggio (filly). The first of these two came second in the Italian Trotting Derby (Gr.1) in 2007 and the latter has won both Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli Filly division (Gr.2) and a Group 1-race in Italy. In Sweden Varenne is sire of the top filly Lie Detector with more than SEK 2 000 000 in earnings in her freshman year. In addition to this, Varenne is sire of the presumably best 2-year-old in Europe 2007, Lord Capar, winner of Gran Criterium (Gr.1) a.o.

Varenne was available in the US with frozen semen in 2003 and 2004. His 3-year-old daughter Southwind Serena won the Breeders Crown in the US 2007, and a 2-year-old out of the ordinary is the colt Gallantly 2,1:56.3m (2-*12,4ak).

Varenne makes his debut as a stallion in Sweden in 2008 at Menhammar Stuteri. His book is already full for 2008.

Feb 6 Lord Capar by Varenne was one of the best 2-year-olds in Europe in 2007. He made his 2008 debut today taking a confident win at Solvalla in 17,6a / 2140m. The victory in Zoogin's Lopp was worth SEK 100 000. Lord Capar has now won 8 of his 11 starts of his career, and is getting close to SEK 1,5 mill in earnings.
